BLOG Blogging Do you have a blog? Would you like to start one for yourself or your classroom? Blogs are collaborative tools that teachers and students can use to create amazing products. Learn how blogs can be excellent instructional tools and how to avoid some common pitfalls when using them with students. We will use Google Blogger to create a blog that will be up and running when you leave class. It can be the answer to the age old question, “What did you do in school today?” and much, much more. DIIGO DIIGO: Research and Collaboration Tool “If you browse or read a lot on the web, we believe you will find Diigo indispensable. Diigo is two services in one -- it is a research and collaborative research tool on the one hand, and a knowledge-sharing community and social content site on the other.” With this great online tool, you can keep a list of your own bookmarks and share your lists with others. There is also an educational version where you can set up accounts for students - and keep them secure! In this session, you will learn how to use Diigo for yourself and with your students, and you will begin setting up your own new online bookmarks! DS Digital Storytelling Digital storytelling is the newest way to encourage 21st century skills in your classroom. Students from kindergarten to high school can take the age-old tradition of oral story telling and add photos, movies, music, and the author’s own voice. In addition, teachers can use Digital storytelling to share content and as a tool for students to demonstrate their learning. EX Excel Basics for Teachers This inservice is designed to familiarize you with Microsoft Excel. You will be given an overview of Excel and be taught how to enter labels, values and formulas. EXBB Excel the Basics and Beyond for Office Staff This class will concentrate on topics, tips and tricks especially useful to office admin assistants, secretaries and clerks. We will review the basics and move on to the next step in Excel. There will be a review of how to make formulas, use the function wizard and use the find and replace features. You will also learn how to do some advance features with databases. We will spend time looking at additional features, such as calculating data across worksheets and analyzing data with logical and lookup functions. FV Flip Video and Movie Maker Video can not only be fun, but easy too. Come to class and use a Flip Video Camera. We have 15 to work with. You will see how easy video can be with this inexpensive camera. Students can shoot video then edit it on the computer, or if no computer is available, they can playback the video via a TV or LCD projector. Once we have our video from the Flip Video camera, we will learn how to create movies using Microsoft Moviemaker. We will learn the basics of the program and discuss ways to have students develop movies to meet your curricular goals. Movie Maker is an excellent program that encourages students to collaborate, think critically, and be creative while developing 21st century communication skills. GD Google Documents Google Documents is a Web 2.0 tool you can use to have students work collaboratively on word processing, spreadsheet and presentation documents. These documents are stored via the Internet so you do not need to have any additional software. The best part is, it’s free! All Basic understanding of Windows or Macintosh computers
GF Google Forms: Creating Online Surveys Educators are always looking for ways to create surveys. Google Docs has a tool to create online surveys. We will see how to make a survey and answer the questions. You will learn how to link it to an email, blog, or webpage. Watch the results come in and see how to make them into graphs. Different question types will also be examined. In addition, we will look at other survey tools including how to use your cell phone to conduct a survey. GLOG Easy Online Posters Using Glogster Glogster.edu has safe, private space available to teachers and students to create amazing online posters, which work like web pages. TEMT TEMS for Teachers The District is moving to a new student management system called TEMS for the 2009-10 school year. At this training, you will learn how to take attendance electronically using TEMS. In addition, you will learn how to use all of the grade book features including setting up categories, entering assignments, entering grades, adding comments and creating grade reports. In addition, you will learn how to post grades to the Parent Portal. If you take one of the District TEMS classes in July, 2009, you will not have to attend the mandatory training at your site on August 4, 2009 from 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM. All None
