Academic: Students will gain reading, writing, and oral language practice. Students will learn about insects.

Technological: Standard 1: Essential Technology Skills

Pre-Requisite Technology Skills: Before beginning this lesson, students should know how to find a bookmark in the toolbar and click on it to go to a website. In this particular lesson, students should click on the Trackstar bookmark, "Beautiful Butterflies and Other Incredible Insects"-

http://scrtec.org/track/tracks/f03308html.

Materials: PC with Windows ’95, Netscape, URL(Trackstar-bookmarked)

Procedures: See attached activities.

Assessment: Student comprehension of the story will be measured based on the report they write about a particular insect. With beginning students who may need help with reading and/or writing, the facts can be read to them and the answers written for them as they tell about a particular insect on which they would like to report. At Nash, student reading development is measured using the SFA assessments. Student writing is measured using the District Research Paper Project Continuum. Oral language development in students occurs over a long period of time. One measure I have used for oral language development is the Spectrum Asssessment.
