Essentials Level:
1SS-E2. Describe the
legacy and cultures of prehistoric American Indians in Arizona, including the
impact of, and adaptations to geography, with emphasis on:
PO 4. the distinctive cultures of
the Anasazi, Hohokam, and Mogollon, including where they lived, their
agriculture, housing, decorative arts, and trade networks
PO 5. how prehistoric cultures
adapted to, and altered, their environment, including irrigation canals and
housing

Academic:

Students
will be able to identify the 3 main groups of prehistoric people who lived in
Arizona.
·
Students
will be able to identify where these people lived, what their homes were like,
what crafts they made, and what food they grew/ate.

Students
will create a short story as if they were a child of one of these groups.
Technological:
·
Students
will be able to gather information using Internet sources provided by the
teacher.
·
Students
will be able to open an Excel spreadsheet from a link on a webpage.
·
Students
will be able to enter information in a database in Excel.
·
Students
need to be able to navigate a webpage using the Browser’s Back button, Forward
button, scroll bars, and hyperlinks.
·
Students
need to be able to save and open a spreadsheet file from the Internet.
·
Students
need to be able to enter information into a database document.
·
The
class will need access to a computer lab with internet access or a classroom
computer with internet access.
·
Software
needed: Internet browser, Microsoft Excel
·

Students
will need paper and pencil to write their stories.
·
Students
will work in pairs at two computers.
One computer will be used to navigate the Internet, and the other will
be used to enter information into the database.
·
Both
students in the pair will go to the lesson site.
·
Show
the students how to click on the spreadsheet link and save the spreadsheet to
the desktop then open it. Have one
student in each pair open the spreadsheet.
·
Allow
time for students to read webpages and record information.
·
Once
students have completed filling in the database, they will print the database.
·
Students
will draft and write their short stories.
Students
will be assessed based on the information in their databases.
Students
will be assessed based on the content of their short stories.
