Are You Eating 4-2-3-2-6?

Objectives:
            Academic:          Students will create a graph to show the data of their personal eating habits for two days.
                                      Students will make compare their data with the pyramid of the five food groups and make suggestions as to how they would improve their eating habits to get their 4-2-3-2-6.
 

            Technological:    Standard 1
                                      Standard 3

Pre-Requisite Technology Skills:
            Students will need to know how to use a keyboard.
            Students will need to know how to make graphs using Excel for Spreadsheets.
            Students will need to have computer  knowledge as to printing documents.
            Students will have to have knowledge of the five food groups and recommended servings for their age group, i.e. 4-2-3-2-6.

Materials:    Computer with Excel program .
                   Printer access.
                   Personal diary of two days' eating habits.
                   Poster with food group pyramid showing recommended servings.
                   Aver-key & television

Procedures:
           * Teacher will demonstrate making a graph with Aver-key.
                *Go to Start, pull to Programs and click on MicroSoft Excel.
                *A spreadsheet will appear; type in the labels for columns A1 - Food Groups, B-1& C-1 weekdays.
                *In column A-1, under food group heading type in the five food groups, i.e. milk,meat,vegetables, fruit, grains.
                *In column B-1 and C-1, type in a number for the servings of the food groups per data collected.
                *Go to tool bar and click on Chart Wizard ( icon that looks like a bar chart with blue, yellow, and red bars).
                *Click on the Chart type and Sub type you want to use.
                *Click on the Next button to move to the next dialog box
                *After checking that the chart is how you like it, click on Next button for next dialog box.
                *Type in Chart label.(Ex." How Well do I Eat?")
                *Type in the category label and value label.
                * Choose to have chart on seperate sheet.
                *Click Finish.
                *Go to File and then click on Print.
           *Students will be given a scheduled time for computer time.

Assessment:
            Student document will be used as assessment for following directions and completion of assignment.
