Internet Lesson Plan #1 – Accessing Internet/Jan Brett

 

Objectives

Technological:  Students will access Jan Brett’s site on the Internet by typing in URL and using links to navigate through the site - Technology Standard 1

Academic:  Students will read links and directions for activities in order to choose and interact with activities of interest on the site - Reading Standard F2

 

Pre-Requisite Technology Skills

Students will need to be able to:

-         turn on and shut down computer

-         use mouse and keyboard

 

Materials

-         10 computers with Internet access

-         10 notecards with URL – www.janbrett.com

-         aver key so students can watch the big screen as teacher models

 

Procedures

Discuss with students the great resource that is the Internet!  Discuss safety on the Internet and what to do if they accidentally come to an inappropriate site.  Discuss rules for using the Internet.

Whole group demonstration – model how to:

                       - double-click on Netscape icon

                       - type in URL from notecard

                       - use forward and backward arrows

                       - click on different links (show some activities)

(Engage students by giving them choices as to where to go within the site.)

 

Review steps with students.

Assign students in pairs to computers – give them notecard.

Allow students to explore Jan Brett’s site.

Monitor and assist as needed as students explore.

Have students “x out” and shut down the computer.

 Provide sharing time so students can share exciting things they found and problems that  

  they came across – discuss.

 

Assessment

-         Monitor and assess students’ ability to access the website and maneuver through site using links.

-         Use sharing and discussion as assessment tool.
