Analyzing the Difference Between Seals & Sea Lions

 

Standards

 

·        Academic:  Science Standard: Benchmark Two.  4SC-E4.

·        Technological: 

IT-F2.  Demonstrate a functional operation of technology components.

PO 2.   Access information sources (Internet sites).

 

Objectives

 

Academic: Students will research the physical attributes of seals and sea lions as part of their unit of study of marine life living in the Sea of Cortez.

 

Technological: Students will use the Internet to access information about  seals and sea lions.

 

Pre-Requisite Technology Skills

 

Students will need to be able to use a mouse, have keyboarding skills, and

 

Materials

 

Students need access to  Internet capable computers and printers.

Students will need  file folders in which to collect documents.

Students will need copies of the attached handout.

Students need a pencils with which to record information.

 

Accommodations for Special Needs

 

Special needs students may be paired with more capable students to complete the assignment.

 

Procedures

 

This lesson is part of a unit of study that includes researching marine life that exists  in the Sea of Cortez and results in the students’ forming a simulated corporation which creates a proposal to build a public aquarium.  The students generate mission statements for the corporation and the aquarium which include educating adults and children about the importance of preserving the delicate balance of ocean life.  This goal requires the

students to gain in-depth knowledge about the marine life existing in the Sea of Cortez.

 

·        Distribute handout for this lesson to each student.

·        Ask for a volunteer to read out loud the instructions.

·        Ask students, “What questions do you have?” Answer questions.

·        Distribute folders and pencils to students.

 

Assessment
