Bears
OBJECTIVES
Academic: Students will use the internet website the Great Picture Machine and view photographs of bears as an extension of a bear unit. Students will be able to compare and contrast characteristics of the various bears. The children will work cooperatively discussing these elements utilizing their English vocabulary.
Technological: Students will be able to turn on the computer. Students will use the icon for netscape to access the internet . Students will type in the URL for the Great Picture Machine http://www.ncrtec.org/picture.htm. Students will type the word BEARS and use cursor to click on the submit to search for bear pictures. Students will click on highlighted bear names to view various bear pictures.
Technology Standard 1
MATERIALS: Computer, URL http://www.ncrtec.org/picture.htm. for the website of pictures, paper and pencil to record characteristics ( color, size)
PROCEDURES: Students work cooperatively at the computers. Students are to turn on the computers and use the mouse to access Netscape by clicking on the correct Icon. The students are to type the URL http://www.ncrtec.org/picture.htm in the locator box in order to access the Bear Pictures. Students will successfully click on the various bears highlighted and view the graphics of the bears. Students will discuss the various characteristics, utilizing their English vocabulary, looking for specifics such as color, size, etc. Students will record the characteristics to be utilized later to discuss what the various groups recorded for the bear’s characteristics.
ASSESSMENT: Students will demonstrate the ability to use the computer by successfully locating the correct website and viewing the various picture of bears. The students will successfully exit the site and shutdown the computers. Students will be able to discuss what they have learned from the site and be able to answer key questions asked regarding bears.
