Materials:

Access to Microsoft word

The rough draft to their short story

Procedures:

Students will already have their rough draft typed in the computer. They will need to replace . or ? with .^p^p. This makes it easy to look at the sentences. Students can then evaluate the range of sentence structures they’ve used to see whether all their sentences have the same pattern; they can try to combine sentences to create more variety. They can also easily see if their transition words need to be altered.

To return the paragraph to its original form the search-and-replace order is reversed.

Assessment:

Assessment is based on the AMS Expository Writing Rubric.
