Objectives:

Academic: Students will be able to find information on the Internet through a website by searching for relevant facts for their research paper. W-E5, PO 3

Technological: Students will have basic understanding of the Internet and be able to conduct research. Standards 1 and 2

Pre-Requisite Technology Skills

Students will need to know how to use a mouse effectively and a basic understanding of the Internet.

Materials: Computer with Internet service - website is www.askjeeves4kids.com, printer, a research topic

Procedures:

    1. Have students pick a research topic that they will write a paper on. Have them go to www.askjeeves4kids.com.
    2. When students get there, have them type in a question they have about their research. Students can type in any question they are interested in, but having a particular research topic in mind makes it more meaningful.
    3. After they have typed in a question and found relevant information, have them print it out. When a question is typed in, the answer is not always found, but usually something similar is.

Assessment:

Have the students show you what they have printed out to make sure it is relevant to their paper. If it is not, have them go back and try again with the assistance from a partner.
