Cover page for the research paper project

Objectives:

Academic:

1. The students will familiarize themselves with a word processing program.

2 .The students will learn how to transfer data from written form to a printed document.

3.Create a cover page that will be the front page of the research paper project

Technological: learn how to:

change the color, border, and the font of their writing

import a graphic onto their front cover

Pre-Requisite Technology Skills:

You need to be familiar with the student writing program. Students should be familiar with the basics of keyboarding, word processing, and controlling a mouse.

Materials:

1. Three computers

2. Their research folders

3. Averkey (if you are teaching this to a large class)

4. printer

5. A disk to save their work

Accommodations for special needs:

Make sure the your special education students are sitting close to someone who can help them spell or repeat directions.

Procedures:

  1. Gather around one computer or use averkey to demonstrate the steps and review the main menu. I usually break it up quite a bit and let the students try each step. If you are teaching a large group you might want to write the steps out on a hand out.
  2. Have students open up writing center and then open posters. Once at these screen have them find the tool bar and briefly review (color, font, and centering). Have them experiment for a little bit.
  3. Have them write their title and their name of their research papers. Explain that this can be changed later. Then let them explore some options with borders, color, and font.
  4. Then have them import a picture from the toolbar (picture)
  5. Before leaving I had them save so they could finish next time

Assessment: I do visual assessments. If they are following along and starting to develop more independence then I know that they are learning.
