Lesson Title: Animals Mania

• Students will identify different characteristics of different animal families (e.g. mammal, amphibians, reptiles, birds).
• Students will categorize animals into their families (e.g. cactus wren into birds, snakes into reptiles, bears into mammals, etc.)

• Students will operate peripheral devices (e.g. mouse)
• Students will follow directions to bold, underline, italicize in Microsoft Word and in Student Writing Center.

Students will need to know how:

• Use the mouse—click it to get into different programs
• Locate and click on Microsoft Word
• Locate and click on Student Writing Center

Microsoft Word, Student Writing Center, Worksheet Template in Student Writing Center, Printer, Students’ note cards with Animal Trackstar information.

Teacher will review getting into Microsoft Word with students. Students will learn how to bold, underline, and italicize by creating texts and executing these commands. After students finish practice bolding, underlining, and italicizing in Microsoft Word, they will click on Student Writing Center. Here, they will call up the worksheet template to do the questions reviewing their knowledge about animal classifications. After they finish, students will print out their paper and turn them in.

Evaluations will be based on students’ using the underline, bold, and italicize commands correctly on the worksheet. Students will also be evaluated on their knowledge of how well/how correctly they classify their animal groups/families.
