Procedures
Begin with a group discussion of different instruments the students are familiar with. Make a list of these on a chalk board or large piece of paper. Then ask students what a family is and how instruments would make up different families. Once discussion has finished, explain that they will be studying instruments and their families today. Direct students to their computers with their handouts to do further exploration of the instruments. When there is about 10-15 minutes left of class time , direct the students back to a group sitting to discuss what they discovered about the instruments. The teacher may choose to write this information down on the board as well for the students to view throughout the discussion. Have students share their favorite instruments, and why.
Assessment
Student reflection through group discussion.
