Grade Level: Music, Grades 3-5

Title: Recognizing Music Vocabulary

Objectives:

Academic: The students will demonstrate their ability to recognize music vocabulary words by designing and completing a music crossword puzzle.

Technological: The students will enter information at a site in order to create and print out a crossword puzzle; the students will have extra practice entering an URL.

Pre-Requisite Technology Skills: turn on computer; enter an URL; follow site directions; print a webpage

Materials: a Hewlett-Packard PC; a compatible printer; a sheet handed out by teacher with the vocabulary and definitions to be entered into the computer (following lesson plan); the URL is http://www.puzzlemaker.com/CrissCrossSetupForm.asp

Special Needs:

Procedures:

  1. students are assigned to computers (2 or 3 to each); turn on computers, get to Netscape, and enter URL.
  2. students enter title, and size of puzzle
  3. students enter the vocabulary words, followed by the definition (one for each line)
  4. click on "create the puzzle"
  5. when puzzle comes up on screen, click on "print" to print out
  6. do the puzzle you have created (from printed copy)

Assessment: The assessment is the student’s finished crossword puzzle, which is handed in to the teacher for evaluation.

allegro lively or fast

lento very slowly

andante walking speed

presto very fast

tempo the speed of the beat

moderato medium speed

dynamics the volume (loud or soft) of the music

piano softly

forte loudly

pianissimo very softly

fortissimo very loudly
